IT was honours shared at the weekend between Manchester Storm and Guildford Flames.
The teams met home and away with home advantage proving the deciding factor in both games.
On Saturday evening in Altrincham, Guildford were looking good as they built up a lead but Storm’s never-say-die attitude proved the deciding factor when they won 3-2.
Dane Byers, Dallas Ehrhardt and Mike Hammond scored the all-important goals in a performance that head coach Ryan Finnerty described as a tough game by saying: “We play in a small rink and hopefully we won’t be penalised as often going forward after numerous penalty calls.”
On Sunday Storm made the long journey to Surrey to play the return game but Guildford were keen for revenge and ran out 8-3 winners.
Storm led at one point but the home side showed what a good side they have become by taking control of the game completely in the third period.
Evan Richardson, Byers and Ciaran Long scored the Storm goals.
Storm now prepare for a big weekend of hockey when they entertain current champions Cardiff Devils in Altrincham on Saturday (7pm) before making the trip across the Pennines to meet Sheffield Steelers on Sunday evening.
