DAVENPORT Golf Club were superb hosts as they staged the finals of the East Cheshire Ladies' Leagues over two days.

Over the past few months hundreds of ladies from clubs in East Cheshire have been involved in a series of matches in three sections according to handicaps – A, B and Plate – aiming to make finals day.

The first day saw the final for the Business Ladies' Leagues featuring Sale and Hazel Grove with Manchester and District Ladies' Golf Association Bell Cup winners Sale adding another trophy to their collection for the first time.

Wins for Sue Oldham, by 3&2 over Kay Allen, and Jenni Page, by 4&3 over Gillian O’Meara, took Sale across the finishing line with the last match being conceded to Grove’s Georgina Thorp.

The next day the A teams from Ringway and Tytherington began a busy day and a terrific contest which went to the first extra hole for the last match on the course.

Ringway had early wins by Wad Grayson (3&2) and Linda Cheetham (two up) but the the match took twists and turns with Janet Ions (2&1), Sue Bury (4&3) and Celia Stanley (4&3) coming back strongly for Tytherington as Linda Hill drew Ringway level with a 4&2 win.

It was all eyes on the last match on the 19th between Mary Harris (Tytherington) and Jane Conroy (Ringway) with the latter keeping her nerve to see Ringway win the A team Shield for the first time since it was first played for in 2007.

Tytherington were also in action in the B team match in a local derby with Prestbury and they always had the edge with wins for Sue Gilmore (4&3), Fiona Liggett (2&1) and Liz Jennings (2&1) with Lynne Cameron (5&4) and Jill Morris (4&3) replying for Prestbury.

Victory was secured by Rachel Smith with a 3&1 win against Darlene Masters with Jill Hone conceding the last match to Helen Bolam to see Tytherington win 4-3.

The Plate match was again a local derby between Bramhall and Romiley with Janet McRoberts opening the Romiley account with a 4&2 win.

Bramhall came storming back with wins from Gill Hunt (3&1) and Linda McKenzie (4&2).

Romiley then took the lead with one-hole wins from Audrey Jones and Janet Godfrey.

But Bramhall had the final word with the sting in the tail coming from Maggie Beadle (4&3) and Linda Fegan (3&2) to take the Plate back to Bramhall for the first time.

The winning teams can now look forward to taking on their West Cheshire counterparts at Delamere Forest Golf Club with the chance to become county champions.
