SALE boxer Sam Hyde is relishing a first title fight on Saturday when he challenges for the vacant WBA Intercontinental Cruiserweight Championship at the Manchester Arena.
The 25-year-old takes on another unbeaten fighter in the shape of 28-year-old Londoner Richard Riakporhe over 10 rounds, looking to claim the belt after a frustrating year hampered by injury and fight postponements.
And Hyde, who trains in Bolton with acclaimed coach Joe Gallagher, is determined to seize the opportunity handed to him despite the short notice he would be boxing on the undercard of the huge Tony Bellew versus Oleksandr Usyk bill.
Hyde told The Messenger: “It may have been short notice but is a fantastic opportunity for me and one I am going to grab with both hands.
“He is a big-hitter but I do not plan on getting caught and am determined to get that belt and step up to even bigger things.
“It’s in my home town on a big pay-per-view bill and it’s massive for me.
“I have had some top sparring since the recent postponements and am ready to get in that ring.
“I will have good support from friends and family and want to show everyone what I am about on Saturday at a big venue and in front of a big crowd and TV audience.
“These are the fights I have aimed for and hopefully it is a step towards more of them.”
* Hyde’s fight is part of the Bellew v Usyk show live on Sky Sports Box Office.
