DENTON Golf Club provided a terrific stage for the WGTB Golf Inter Club Trophy final with a challenging course.

There were 15 pairs who had battled their way through the knockout rounds, although some players had to play on their own with their partners pulling out.

Sale Golf Club had the strongest number of players in the final with competitors from Cheadle, Gatley, Didsbury, Brookdale and Heaton Moor joining them.

The early pace was set by Stan Devlin and Tim Tighe of Sale with a 40-point return and in the end the nearest pair to threaten them were Sale’s dynamic duo of Kevin and Gareth Moore, with 38 points.

There were three pairs locked on 37 points to complete the main prize list with Heaton Moor’s John Collins and Charlie Dinsdale winning the card play-off from John Hassett and Hamish Mackay and Peter Rowles and P Moore – both from Sale.

Nearest-the-pin prizes were won by Sash Neerso (Sale) and Tighe and balls for two’s went to Neerso, Keith Williams (Brookdale) and Peter Johnson (Gatley).

The winners will enjoy a play and stay at Mottram Hall and the other prizes included rounds for four at Wilmslow Golf Club, Ringway GC, Bramhall GC and Disley GC.
