ALTRINCHAM Kersal's first team stretched their unbeaten run and fittingly marked the 50th anniversary of the club’s move to Stelfox Avenue with a bonus-point 27-19 victory over a determined Tarleton side.

Members of all ages joined in the festivities and were treated to a good game of rugby as, from early on, great footwork from JP Singleton and Rob Worsfold, two of Kersal's most senior players, bamboozled the Tarleton defence and enabled them to command substantial territory.

They got on the scoreboard when Tarleton attempted a speculative cross-field kick from within their own 22.

Singleton came away with the ball and scored in the corner to give Kersal a 5-0 lead.

Soon after, Kersal were back camped in the Tarleton 22, George Wise showing their back line a clean pair of heels.

Ged Scrace capitalised on the pressure and darted over in the corner to make it 10-0.

For all Kersal’s initial pressure Tarleton were in the game and the half finished 17-7.

James Coulson started off the second half elegantly, picking the pocket of the Tarleton back line before racing in for a try.

Tarleton continued to fight and Kersal conceded two tries in quick succession.

But Doug Whyley sliced through the Tarleton defence, putting Kersal back deep within the Tarleton half, before crashing over to score and maintain Kersal's unbeaten run of bonus-point victories.

The second XV redeemed themselves after last week’s crushing defeat at Birkenhead Park with a convincing 47-10 home win against Penrith A, tries coming from Andy Frain (two), Aaron Antrobus, Emeka Okoye (two), Ishmael Bashir and Tony O'Connor, with Jordan Roberts converting all six.

The thirds lost 58-5 at Broughton Park, while on Sunday the under-14s triumphed with a convincing 50-12 away victory over closest rivals Sale FC.

The u15s lost 25-12 in a close-fought encounter at Caldy.
