UNDEFEATED Sale boxer Sam Hyde is back in action on Saturday, aiming to extend his record to 14 wins from 15 professional bouts.

The 24-year-old cruiserweight prospect takes on Hungary’s Tibor Laczo in Bolton after five months without a contest.

And he says he is itching to get back in the ring and get some rounds under his belt.

It has been a frustrating year for the youngster who started out at Sale West gym after dislocating his knee in a freak injury during a fight last October.

But, under the tutelage of world-renowned trainer Joe Gallagher at his base in Bolton, Hyde believes he is progressing all the time despite just two outings this year.

He told The Messenger: “It has been a frustrating year but I’m ready to fight and can’t wait to get back in the ring.

“The injury was tough to take but I think the comeback from that has made me stronger mentally, having to get over that.

“Having someone like Joe there and sparring with other members of his camp like Hosea Burton and Callum Johnson has helped me massively.

“I am still young and am not in a rush. I just want to keep doing well and get into that top 10.

“That’s when bigger fights will happen and I can get that title shot I want.”

Hyde takes on Laczo at the Whites Hotel at the University of Bolton Stadium after initially being pencilled in to fight on the undercard of stablemate Callum Smith’s World Series final with George Groves in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Difficulties in getting that fixed up meant a late switch back to the North West but he is just happy to have a bout.

Hyde added: “I don't know much about my opponent because I was meant to be on Callum’s bill in Saudi.

“I know he has never been stopped so I’m sure it will be a tough fight.

“I’m confident though and will have a lot of friends and family from Sale there backing me on the night.

“Sparring has been great and I believe I am coming into my own now. It’s time to show that again in the ring.”
