GOALTENDER Matt Ginn gave Manchester Storm a big lift with an incredible performance at Dundee on Sunday afternoon as the visitors won 2-1 in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Storm travelled north looking for their first league win and in a very tight game that went to sudden death, they won when Luke Moffatt beat the Dundee goaltender low to his left.

Head coach Ryan Finnerty said: “We needed a league win, no matter how it came and we got it through great goaltending and an all-round team performance.

"I want my players to enjoy the feeling after they ground out a win against a very good Dundee side and they all deserve to enjoy the moment. Dundee is a tough rink to win at as we found last season.”

The victory came after heartbreak on Saturday evening when Storm went down 2-1 to Sheffield Steelers at the Storm Shelter in Altrincham in the Challenge Cup.

The game was a tight affair with no goals in the first two quarters.

Steelers' new signing Brendan Brooks, who had only flown into the UK on Saturday morning, scored the winning goal with 15 seconds to go.

Moffatt scored the Storm goal after good work by skipper Dane Byers and Evan Richardson.

Storm’s next game in the Challenge Cup is on Wednesday, October 3 when they entertain big-spending Nottingham Panthers at the Storm Shelter (7pm).

This weekend Storm entertain Milton Keynes on Saturday night in a league game which is also a Conference match.

Storm won the Patton Conference last season and will be hoping to repeat their achievements this time round.

On Sunday, they return to Scotland to face Fife Flyers.
