TRAFFORD completed their preparations for the new season with a rather disappointing performance and a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Warrington Town on Saturday.

Wires danger man Jack Dunn stung the hands of Trafford keeper Ed Wilczynski with a low drive in the seventh minute and shortly afterwards Tony McMillan pushed a Matty Crothers shot behind.

However, the best chance in the opening minutes fell to Matty Bryan but he delayed his shot from close range and Luke George produced a brave block.

Dunn then cracked a volley from the edge of the penalty area inches over before the visitors took the lead in the 38th minute, a short corner from the left ending with Rob Evans' shot deflecting past Wilczynski and into the bottom corner.

Six minutes into the second half Trafford suffered more misfortune when Andy Langford headed into his own goal to make it 2-0.

Wilczynski produced two fine saves to thwart Dunn and Josh Amis before, in the 73rd minute, Aaron Burns reduced the arrears with a fine opportunist goal after great work by Ally Brown down the right.

A mazy run by the impressive Dunn ended with a drive flying inches over before Trafford substitute Declan Rydings blasted a tremendous long-range effort that was held by McMillan.

The final whistle signalled a rather disappointing performance from Tom Baker’s side but, after some very impressive displays in their friendlies, they can look forward to the new campaign with great confidence.

They begin the Evo-Stik West season with a very difficult encounter against Prescot Cables at the First Point Shawe View Stadium on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
