SALE'S first XI lost by eight wickets to Cheshire County League Division One leaders Hyde on Saturday.

The Dane Road men won the toss, but got off to a bad start as they slumped to 13-3.

Tyrone Lawrence started to rebuild the innings, adding 70 for the fourth wicket with Matt Wilson.

Lawrence fell for 40 when looking in good touch before Wilson added another 24 with Ryan Burgess before he fell for 43.

Burgess smashed a quickfire 29 and Chris Canning added 19 as Sale were bowled out for 159 in the 41st over.

Their total was unlikely to be enough against the leaders on one of the smaller grounds in the county, and so it proved.

Greg Gyves and Isaac Brooks were the wicket takers as the home side coasted home for the loss of two wickets inside 27 overs.

Sale's second team played out a draw with high-flying Bramhall.

The visitors posted 229-6 after being asked to bat first, Dan Newton taking 3-67.

Sale made a good reply, but could not keep up with the required rate, closing on 178-6,  Newton showing his all-round qualities with 61 not out and Viraj Sorathia hit 36.

The thirds posted a competitive 213 at Hyde on Sunday, Newton building on his recent return to form with 64 and Gareth Watterson hitting 44.

James Dodds took 3-38 as Hyde reached their target for the loss of six wickets in the 36th over.

The fourth team lost to Bowdon thirds after posting 135-5, father and son openers Tris and Theo Brodbeck the leading scorers with 54 and 23 respectively.

Bowdon made short work of their reply to reach their target in the 21st over, Ivan Flitcroft taking 2-17.

This Saturday the first XI host Barrow at Dane Road and the seconds travel to Stockport Georgians.

On Sunday, the third team visit Grappenhall and the fourths host Woodley.
