THE Manchester and District Golf Alliance is the biggest organisation of its kind in the country and is proud of the entries it receives each year for its unique Inter Club knockouts.

The blue riband competition is the Dunham Forest Trophy and features the club professional and the top six amateurs in singles matchplay format with the aim being to reach finals day at Dunham Forest Golf Club in September.

There is again a great entry of more than 90 clubs in the 2018 competition and holders Manchester have been drawn in the preliminary round with a juicy home tie with Crompton and Royton GC.

Davyhulme Park professional Martyn Hamer will be relishing his match with Withington’s Steve Marr.

Local clubs' ties in this round are: Didsbury v Stand, Northenden v High Legh Park, Ringway v Brookdale, Ellesmere v Sale, Chorlton v Pike Fold, Swinton Park v Altrincham and Ashton-on-Mersey v Chapel en le Frith

Through with a bye are Dunham Forest

The City Glass Men’s Foursomes is another Alliance major with each team fielding seven pairs, half of whom have to be over 10 handicap.

The holders are Houldsworth Golf Club who will host the final in October and they have been drawn in the preliminary round at home against Chapel en le Frith.

Local teams' ties in this round are: Ashton-on-Mersey v Fairfield, Davyhulme Park v Westhoughton, Disley v Didsbury, Northenden v Stamford, Withington v Davenport.
