CAPTAIN Ric Clarke and man-of-the-match Sully Ahmed helped themselves to a brace each as Urmston Hockey Club men’s seconds dispatched Didsbury Northern Men’s sixths 8-1 at the weekend in Division Five North South.

Aaron Kelly, Suart Higginbotham and brothers Owen and Lewis Monk also netted in the rout which saw the Greens leapfrog their opposition into second place.

The win stands the team in good stead for this weekend’s fixture against leaders Horwich who will be defending a 100-per-cent record.

Moe Rothwell scored twice as the ladies’ seconds battled to a 2-1 win against the University of Salford firsts in Division Three without last week’s four-goal hero Lisa Jordan-Dickenson.

Starlets Isobel Seed and Isobel Povah shone alongside the gritty determination of the team with Tamsyn Gray’s heroics in goal key to fending off a late rally from the students.

Stefan Wasilewski opened his scoring account for the season with two goals but it was not enough for the men’s firsts to see off the challenge of a much-improved Lytham St Anne’s side who won 3-2 in Division Two West.

Mike Tonge’s tenacious trickery earned him the man-of-the-match award as lady luck evaded the Greens once again.

The ladies’ firsts also fell 3-1 to Wilmslow in Division Two South West, with Stacey Bell scoring the Greens' only goal in a very tough game.

Wilmslow started the game brightly with two early goals and, despite Urmston’s battling, it was too much of a hill to climb for the ladies.
