ALTRINCHAM Kersal's second XV notched another win on home turf, beating Sefton 17-12 to stay top of Division Two South.
With a strong wind at Stelfox Avenue making life difficult, Kersal knew they had to start well and the first score came from a driving maul, finished off on the blind-side by second-rower Jordan Roberts.
Two further scores came from good handling and footwork in the difficult conditions from backs James Allen and Jack Snoddy which put the home side in a dominant position going into the break.
The second half proved a different challenge as Sefton came out of the blocks firing and knocking on the door for a long stint of early exchanges, Kersal's defence holding out.
But the visitors eventually made it across the whitewash, working their way around the outside of the defensive line.
A further try from a quick tap-penalty brought the scores closer, but Kersal managed to see out the win ahead of a trip to Didsbury TocH on Saturday.
The firsts did not fare as well and went down 39-3 at Warrington in North One West.
It was not a great start as the visitors went behind inside five minutes, though they reduced the deficit when Dave Coleman kicked a penalty.
It was all downhill thereafter as Kersal's injury-hit squad could not get a grip in the game as the hosts powered to a convincing win.
Kersal will look to bounce back when they hosts Northwich on Saturday.
Elsewhere, the third XV won 33-7 at Broughton Park but the ladies' match at Garstang on Sunday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
