TRAFFORD MV Colts put in a fine display to beat Rossendale 66-7 and win the Lancashire Trophy at Fleetwood.

They took control from the kick off and Henry Brownlow opened Trafford's account as he coasted over the line after a series of sweeping back moves.

After some sustained pounding of the Rossendale line Luke Cox used every inch of his frame to stretch and touch the whitewash and his try was again converted by Greg Warren.

Scrum-half Rory Canham then scored a wonderful solo try which Warren converted to put MV in the driving seat.

Joe Hambleton touched down in the right corner and just before half time Connor Coogan used all his strength to smash over the line and score.

Both these tries were unconverted and Trafford ended the half with a deserved 31-0 lead.

As the second half got under way, penalties went Rossendale's way and they managed to break away and score their only try which was converted.

However, this only inspired MV to respond with more bite and Hambleton scorched down his wing and outflanked his winger to score his second.

This was followed by Nathan May using his hand off to good effect and smashing through on the wing. Ethan Cornick, recent recipient of the MacPherson Trophy for top try scorer in the club, broke through a couple of tackles to touch down under the posts.

Cox then broke down the wing to score a 50-metre try.

In a perfect ending, Warren, celebrating his 18th birthday, scored in the left corner before converting his own try from an acute angle.

It was a deserved triumph in what was the final outing for the Colts, clinching their third piece of silverware.
