SALE Cricket Club is calling on local girls to get involved in the game.
The club is working with local schools and community groups to deliver taster sessions and encourage more girls to join the club.
With news this week that Lancashire County Cricket Club have secured a team in the new Women’s Super League interest in the game is increasing as Sale look to grow the number of girls benefiting from their award-winning coaching scheme.
Coaching and development officer, Mike Sambell, has been visiting local primary schools delivering girls-only taster sessions to introduce them to cricket.
This week, Year 6 girls from Moorlands, Tyntesfield, Cloverlea and St Joseph’s Primary Schools took part in a special coaching session at Sale High School, supported by their Year 10 GCSE PE students.
The club is running another two girls' taster sessions on Sunday, February 20 and Sunday, March 20 – also at Sale High School. These sessions are free of charge and take place from 5-6pm.
The club’s winter coaching programme starts on Sunday at Sale High School and is open to both boys and girls.
Under-nines and under-11s from 3-4pm, under-13s and under-14s from 4-5pm – both costing £2 per session.
Senior nets commence next Thursday, January 28 at Sale Grammar School from 7.45pm and new members are welcome.
