Huddersfield YMCA 35 Sale FC 37
SALE stay top of National 3 North but it was a close run thing at Huddersfield last Saturday.
In a 10-try bonanza, YM dominated much of the match, scoring three tries in the opening quarter as the Sale play left a lot to be desired particularly in the first half.
A Chris Mayor try approaching half time and conversion by McGovern added to a Ben Stelmaszek try in the early minutes but YM still led 18-12 at the break.
An exchange of penalties in the third quarter was all that could be achieved by either side, but the final period was a different matter.
Tries from Adam Aigbokhae and Jack Moorhouse with a conversion from McGovern put Sale in front for the first time, only for YM to respond with two converted tries of their own to put the host’s eight points clear with five minutes remaining.
The Yorkshiremen were then penalised for blocking and McGovern kicked the penalty to bring Sale within five points and following strong pressure in the last few minutes Danny Waddy levelled the scores at 35-35 with a try.
Sale captain Liam McGovern coolly added the conversion to keep their 100 per cent record intact as the side head the league table by four points.
