A COMMUNITY football club is raising money to supply another Trafford team with a defibrillator.

George FC, based at Chassen football pitch in Urmston, has raised £4,000 over the past year and supplied six defibrillators to organisations including pubs and churches.

They purchased their own during the summer of 2012, making them the first team in the league to possess one.

The club’s charity officer, Mike Pinder, has tackled challenges including the Manchester 10K, the Great North run and the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the cause.

Now they are planning to present recently promoted team Trafford FC with the lifesaving equipment - which restores a normal hearbeat - at a charity fundraising match on July 20.

The rapidly expanding club was founded as a community football club in 2011 in memory of founder Simon Hale’s father George, a serviceman in the Navy and football player.

The team, who pride themselves on commitment to fair play, have since set up a reserve team and been promoted into Altrincham and District league division 2.

The match, which will take place at George FC’s home ground, will be against North West Ambulance Service, who have supported the club by training them to use the defibrillators.

Club chairman, Grant Hine, said: “We ran a similar event last year and managed to raise £350 so we’ve got high hopes.

“It’s also really about raising awareness.”

The match, which will kick off at 12 noon, will be free to attend and will include a raffle with prizes supplied by Bolton FC.
