ASHTON upon Mersey's three ward councillors - John Lamb, Brian Rigby and Mike Whetton - have held their annual Chinese banquet to boost the Mayor of Trafford’s charities.

The event, held at the Gonbay Cantonese restaurant in Altrincham, was a sell out with more than 100 people attending including the Mayor, Cllr Pat Young and her consort, Cllr Michael Young.

A huge raffle of donated prizes, including a luxury food hamper, raised hundreds of pounds towards the event total of £1,945.00.

These funds will benefit the Mayor’s charities which are the Young Oncology Unit at the Christie, a cancer centre for young people, along with Genie Networks based at Altrincham General Hospital which supports the deaf and hard of hearing.

Cllr Mike Whetton said “This is our third year of running such an event and it is the most successful yet. It is designed to cross political boundaries and brings everyone together raising money for worthy local causes.”
