A WOMAN was conned out of thousands of pounds by a gang of men who posed as builders in Ashton-on-Mersey.

The woman, 60, agreed a price with the men to repair roof tiles and install patio doors at her home.

She handed over some cash on July 3, but the men never returned.

PC Lee Woodworth, from Altrincham police station, said: "The woman handed over her money in good faith for work she expected to be carried out.

"These heartless men have taken full advantage of her and never returned.

"Crimes such as this are truly sickening and I would urge anyone who may have been offered a similar service to only accept work through a reputable firm. Do not be pressured into agreeing work or handing over money.

"If anyone has any information about the people responsible please get in touch so we can arrest them before they steal from anyone else."

The first offender was described as white, 6ft tall, about 40-years-old, of average build with short dark hair.

The second was described as 6ft tall, white, of stocky build with a shaved head.

Two others were described as about 5ft 6ins tall of medium build. One is in his early 30s to late 40s with blond hair and the other was about 50-years-old with short grey hair.
