STRETFORD resident Craig Keatley is planning a unique coast to coast walk for charity, wearing flippers.

Craig, 47, a civil servant who is married with two children, hopes to raise money for Manchester cancer centre The Christie, by completing the Coast to Coast Flipper Challenge from Withernsea, on the Yorkshire coast, to Liverpool in May 2018, wearing flippers for the entire distance.

Next Saturday, August 5, he will also be walking from Fleetwood to Lytham St. Annes, and will be taking part in the Manchester half marathon in October.

Craig said: "I take the Basil Fawlty approach to the challenges, and keep fit and healthy as it is quite demanding walking in flippers. I wanted to do something different and have had an amazing reaction from the public."

Craig has walked 150 miles over the last 10 months, and was inspired by a beach party he went to in the early 90s, for which he wore flippers.

"I've lost a few close friends over the last 12 months, so the cause is close to my heart. I want to help research into cancer as much as I can, and I really appreciate the support I have been given."
