RESIDENTS who are campaigning against a scheme to build an Islamic cultural centre on Green Belt land in Timperley will hold a demonstration at the weekend.
They are taking part in a 'peaceful protest' at Thorley Lane, from 11am on Saturday.
The protest will be held next to the site where Altrincham and Hale Muslim Association (AHMA) wants to erect a community centre on Thorley Lane, opposite Wyevale World of Pets. It is currently preparing a planning application.
The proposed 2,000sqm two-storey building would replace the Islamic Cultural Centre at the former St David’s Church on Grove Lane, which has been deemed no longer fit for purpose due to the association’s growing community.
Campaigners claim the development should not go ahead on Green Belt land, and that it would cause traffic snarl-ups.
