CARRINGTON Parish Council suffered a blow when arsonists set fire to the community pavilion on Manchester Road.
The attack wrecked one half of the structure and there was smoke damage to the rest.
However, staff at GE Power have donated a £500 cash boost to their funds and DF Energy provided left over supplies from the construction site.
Anthony Wilson, GE Power said “We were disheartened to learn of the loss of this community resource and were delighted to be able to support the parish council with a cash donation and recycling of spare building materials from site.”
The chairman of Carrington Parish Council, Sid Neild, said “We have been overwhelmed by the level of support from companies such as GE Power and DF Energy. We now have great plans to rebuild the pavilion and to rejuvenate the playing fields.”
GE Power and DF Energy are consortium partners for the construction of Carrington Power Station on Manchester Road. The 880MW gas-fired station will supply enough electricity to meet the average demands of a million households when operational.
