A POPULAR Trafford swimming club for people with disabilities that meets each Sunday morning at Sale Leisure Centre has celebrated its 40th anniversary.
To mark the landmark, Sailfin Swimming Club held a celebratory lunch at the VAO at Sale Waterside on July 17.
The club has gone from strength to strength over those 40 years and now has a regular following of around 60 members and helpers.
Operating under the auspices of the Association of Swimming Therapy, members are encouraged to be self-sufficient in the water, but wherever necessary each member has a dedicated helper.
Swimming galas are held annually up to national events and no matter what the member's handicap, under A.S.T. rules, everyone competes as an equal.
The lunch was attended by the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Judith Lloyd and her Mayoress, Noelle Ryder.
For more information about the Sailfin Swimming Club, call club president Alan Wright on 0161-973-4298 or email: w.alanwright@hotmail.com. Alternatively just turn up to the club pool at Sale Leisure Centre one Sunday morning 10.30am - 12.30pm and meet the team.
