AN elderly motorist drove more than five miles the wrong way around the M60 before crashing head-on into a number of cars.
A string of alarmed motorists rang the police last night after spotting a red Ford Fiesta driving in the wrong direction on the M60 at around 6.10pm.
The driver, in his 80s, drove anti-clockwise in the right hand lane between Cheadle and Trafford Park, before crashing at around 6.15pm, near Carrington, on Monday May 30.
He crashed into two vehicles.
The carriageway was closed and re-opened about 8pm.
Police confirmed the OAP driver had been taken to hospital with injuries ‘that are not thought to have been serious’.
A spokesperson said: “He remains in hospital and enquiries are still ongoing.”
