A SCOUT leader who has been involved since Brownies, has raised £2,000 towards the cost of taking part in an expedition to Peru.
During a 10-day project in August organised by Greater Manchester West scouting, Amy Fairbrother and 21 other 14 to 24-year-olds will irrigate the fields and help to paint a school in Cusco before jungle trekking and visiting Machu Picchu.
Amy, 19, from Lyons Fold, Sale, an apprentice midwife at Wythenshawe Hospital, has to make £3,000 to do the trip.
Her father, who has four other children involved in scouting, has stepped in to help.
Paul, a photographer, is offering a full day’s photography to the highest bidder.
The winner can choose between business pictures or a family portrait. Alternatively, he will teach them to take better pictures themselves.
He said: “I’m happy to offer my skills to help Amy. I hope I get lots of bids.”
Those who do could be in for a bargain since a day’s photography usually costs between £600 and £1000.
Amy said: “I am looking forward to it. I have never been further than France before.”
The group have had four training sessions at Dunham and Middlewood scout camps.
James Treacy, Stretford Network district leader, said: “We want this international event to set a template for our county. The young people will gain life experience and learn how others live.
“It is really nice of my dad to help,” said Amy.
* To bid for a day’s photography, email paulfairbrother@gmail.com. Competition closes at midnight on June 15.
