Kate Garraway was taken off air during a live broadcast after losing her voice.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 59, began to sound increasingly hoarse while delivering news during the ITV programme on Monday, September 14.
She apologised to viewers before being replaced mid-show.
Ms Garraway said: "I must apologise to you, I'm so sorry.
"I'm in absolutely no pain, I don't feel unwell, but I talked way too much last week.
"So it's a little bit like the news is being brought to you by Barry White this morning, so I hope it doesn't impede your understanding of the important stories we have."
During the segment, GMB reporter Jonathan Swain, who was reporting from Glasgow, told Ms Garraway he would bring her a cough sweet when he returned to London.
Back in the studio, co-hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls asked about the cause of her hoarse voice.
Ms Reid suggested it might have been from singing I Know Him So Well alongside Amanda Holden, Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church, and David Olusoga during a tribute to Alan Carr at the National Television Awards on September 8.
Mr Balls joked it could have been "excessive Saturday night karaoke," which Ms Garraway denied.
She said: "I was talking and singing last week!
"I lost my voice on Friday and Saturday night."
She then joked: "Aled Jones now wants to do a Christmas album with me, and I think, maybe, this is the result of that terror, I don't know.
"I know it sounds really painful to listen to – I'm sorry – but I'm actually not in pain."
Ms Reid turned to weather presenter Laura Tobin for advice, who recommended "hot water, honey and lemon."
Ms Garraway replied: "I've got that.
"Anything else?"
Ms Tobin advised: "And don't talk."
Ms Garraway laughed and said: "Not in my nature, Laura!"
Later in the programme, Ms Reid told viewers that Ms Garraway had gone home.
She said: "As you may have noticed earlier this morning, Kate Garraway had a very hoarse voice; she was belting it out at the National Television Awards last week, and her voice has not fully recovered.
"So, we have put her on vocal rest, and Faye Barker has valiantly come to the rescue and is here with the rest of this morning's news."
Ms Barker joked: "Morning, amazing who you can find in a cupboard at ITN when needed!"
