PUPILS from Years 10-13 at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls had the opportunity to talk to John Makinson the chairman of Penguin Random House, the largest publishing company in the world.
John is not only chairman of Penguin Random House but is also Chair of the National Theatre and Director of the International Rescue Committee.
He talked to pupils about the role of publishing in the modern world, the opportunities available within the sector and the very varied career path that had lead him to his current position.
The guest speaker encouraged pupils to think creatively and ‘think big’ when it came to internships and work experience in Year 12 and to pick careers they loved.
Pupils asked a range of original and searching questions including what advice would you give to budding authors?
Girls were left with a lot to think about as well as an insight in to a career they’ve never really considered.
