On 16th January 2011, one my favourite meetings took place. It was the first meeting of the New Year for Youthforia. Youthforia is a regional forum for Youth Cabinets/Councils in the North-West which meets every 9 weeks. From Lancashire to Cheshire, around 100 Young People met at Lancaster Library to discuss the upcoming issues for this year. Representing Trafford was me, Marike (we’ve been to Youthforia since2010) Elmyra and Naadhirah. We started the meeting off by splitting into groups to discuss the new set of Constitution given by the North-West Office/Board. The rules were linked to Youthforia i.e. how it would run, the age range for YP 13-21 or 13-19? And whether there would be a limit to the amount of Young People who come from different constituency. After that, we split into the County Groups, Lancashire, Grater Manchester and Cheshire and Merseyside. In these groups, we then split into the Campaign groups: Transport, YOMP (Youth, Opportunities, Media and Police) and Citizenship. I went into the Transport group, as I have worked in this group for the past year. The rest of Trafford went into Citizenship. In my group we talked about what we did since the last meeting and what we could do. The final target was to write a letter to our Transport Company (for us it would be GMPTE) to invite them to our meetings so that we can discuss the issues within Transport. But, seeing as Trafford is great, we were already ahead as we had invited James Lomax from the GMPTE/Youth Forum last year. It was an awesome day and a great time to catch up with my fellow Youthforia family!
