SALE DIY Centre delivers service that is second to none says one impressed customer. The store has been established on the corner of Ashton Lane in Sale for 34 years and has four members of staff.

And a reader reckons that: "In an age of faceless big shed DIY stores this shop is a haven of old school service and quality." Which makes it a perfect candidate for our Counter Action 'role of honour'.

Manager Ged Smalley has been working at the DIY centre for 27 years and believes that the store's success is down to the staff going the extra mile for their customers, and delivering that extra bit of service to people.

He said: "We are great at giving advice, extremely knowledgeable in household repairs, joinery and building services."

Ged said of the nomination: "We are very happy, we certainly give a quality service and have done for many years, it is nice to know that we are appreciated."

Reader Annette Warburton who nominated the shop said: "Nothing is too much trouble for them, You can buy just what you need - no need to buy a huge length of wood when all you need is two foot.

They will deliver and the staff are knowledgeable and seem to have a genuine interest in what they sell."
