The Homewares hardware store is "A superb shop with superb service," according to one satisfied customer.

The store has been established on Church Road, Urmston, for more than 20 years and sees 700 or more customers through its doors every week.

And a reader reckons the shop's friendly and helpful staff makes it a fantastic candidate for the Counter Action 'roll of honour'.

Owners Bill and Pam Astall have been asked for many unusual objects over the years. But they agree that one of their most memorable occasions was when a customer brought some friends and relatives who were visiting from America, into the store to smell its aroma.

The shop has a traditional smell and feel to it that cannot be recreated in bigger stores that have become popular in recent years.

Bill said: "We try to go out of our way for our customers and offer advice on all of our products to the best of our ability.

"We are a friendly team and look upon all of our customers as our friends."

Tom Warmsley who nominated the store said: "Bill has everything and what he doesn't have he will get, I have nothing but praise for his business."

He added: "I fully support Messenger's Counter Action and think it is a fantastic scheme for preserving local shops and businesses, as they are vital to the area."
