MANCHESTER Grammar School achieved record A Level results with an astonishing 97% A*, A and B grades.

Over 32% of all grades awarded to MGS students were at the new A*, nearly five times the national average. Almost 75% of grades were A or A*, compared up from 70% last year Once again, over half of MGS’s A level students achieved ‘straight’ A grades while more than 20 MGS students gained three or more A* grades. Indeed, six achieved four A* grades, five achieved five A*s and one gained six A*s.

Pictured are just some of MGS’s high flyers from Sale and Altrincham. High Master Dr. Christopher Ray said: “MGS remains among a relatively small number of schools which achieve an academic performance better than 95% B grade or better at A-level. In fact, last year only three schools north of Oxford achieved anything like this level of performance.”

What is most encouraging is the fact that the School has continued to improve academically at a time when university entrance is becoming increasingly competitive. The vast majority of our students gain access to the very best universities the UK has to offer including, Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial, Nottingham, Manchester and Birmingham. MGS has always been a strong route to study Maths, Sciences and Modern Foreign Languages and this year is no exception, with high numbers going on to study in these specialist areas at university.”
