A STRETFORD teacher has shaved her head and dyed it blue and yellow to raise cash for her school.

Lynette Lawson, 31, from Timperley, decided to lop off her locks to raise money for an extension to St. Hilda's Primary School on Warwick Road South.

When built, the £250,000 extension will be used to house an after-school club, breakfast club and various social events.

Lynette, who started working at the school as a newly qualified teacher eight years ago and is now deputy head, said she wanted to ‘give something back’.

Once Lynette decided on using her hair as a fundraiser, she left the design work up to the pupils, who competed to create the best design.

The winner - chosen by staff and pupils - was a combination of six-year-old Amber Burton-Smith’s idea and four-year-old Zuhaib Mahmood’s design.

On June 15, two hairdressers from Trim and Tonic on Hope Road in Sale arrived at the school and spend five hours creating the style and dying Lynette’s hair the school’s colours - yellow and blue.

Lynette said she has had incredible support from her husband, parents, pupils and teachers at the school, and got approval from her two-year-old son William who put his fingers through her hair and said ‘Mummy yellow and blue’, but had got a few funny looks from members of the public.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to Tina and Vicky from Trim and Tonic and everyone who has donated to the fund,” she said.

Lynette has already raised £1,500 of the £25,000 the school needs to raise for the extension.
