CAMPAIGNERS in Stretford who want a face-lift for their local park could have their prayers answered soon.

For council chiefs say that they are looking into plans to improve the facilities at Longford Park over the coming months.

Residents living nearby have been pushing for improvement work to be carried out at the popular park and arranged a questionnaire to hand out to park users.

They say that facilities have been in decline with buildings boarded up and a lack of up-to-date amenities.

But Trafford council say that they are already looking into the matter and are planning to carry out work at the site.

One local campaigner Vicky Marsh told SUM: "Many areas in the park have been left to go to rack and ruin and it needs work doing to make it great again.

"Many people enjoy using the park and it could only be good for everyone if facilities were upgraded - as they are being at other local parks such as the one in Gorse Hill."

The survey carried out by the campaigners suggested various ideas for improvement including better toilet facilities and a new cafe - both of which were well received by those questioned.

Some of these ideas are already on the council's agenda for the park and it is hoped that work will begin soon.

A council spokesman told SUM: "Several schemes for Longford Park are currently being considered.
