IF (as Roland Griffin alleges, letters 31 December) I have my facts wrong over the proposed "improvements" to Trafford's town halls then it is because, yet again, our Labour councillors have changed their minds out of public view.
My facts came from watching the councillors from the public gallery and reading the handouts made available to all councillors - including Mr Griffin.
It was proposed to put photos of previous mayors and of visiting royals where the public would rarely if ever see them.
Only in the face of vociferous Conservative opposition (and the approach of closing time at the Town Hall bar) did Labour agree to defer discussion to an unspecified later date.
There is nothing wrong with a bit of civic pride and history.
Let us hope that the much vaunted plans for the redevelopment of Sale's town hall complex will respect that.
Dr David J Timson, Sale
