Urmston Amateur Swimming Club

THE Northern Counties ASA 50m Sprint Competition took place at Stockport last Saturday with Urmston Swimming Club members again doing well.

Harriet Ellis won gold in the 13 year old Backstroke and Butterfly and was fourth in the Freestyle with Corrie Finn in seventh place in the Backstroke.

Adam Bolton was first in the 16 year Butterfly and Backstroke and fourth in the Freestyle while Jon-Paul Woodcock was sixth in the 14 year Breaststroke and eighth in the Butterfly.

The Girls' 11/12 year team was eighth in the Medley and seventh in the Freestyle team races.

Last Thursday Urmston hosted the second round of the Central Lancashire Jubilee Competition winning comfortably with 158 points well ahead of Trafford Metropolitan Borough SC (112), Stockport (45) and Oldham (37).

However, on Friday Urmston visited Horwich for the Manchester & District Team Competition and finished one point behind the winners, Worsley, and level with the host club.

It was a very close competition with the fourth club, Aquabears, just five points behind.

Last Sunday the Warburton Age Galas continued at Broughton.

James Shaw won the gold medal in the 10 year Breaststroke.

In the 11 year events Paul Matthews won the 100m Backstroke with Paul Ellard in fourth place.

In the 50m Butterfly Paul Matthews was third with Zara Heron sixth in the girls' event while in the 100m Backstroke, Zara was fourth with Hannah Perkins sixth.

In the 12 year Boys' 200m IM Daniel Cordingley was first with Katherine Barker second and Colette Shaw third in the girls'.

In the 13 year girls' 100m Freestyle Harriet Ellis was first with Corrie Finn third.

The 14 year age group saw Emily Rimmer in fourth place in the 100m Butterfly and Alicia Mather sixth in the Backstroke while in the boys' Butterfly Oliver Basson was fourth and Christopher Perkins fifth.

Matthew Jones was sixth in the 15 year Freestyle.
