National title for Trafford Basketball Centre

ONLY two years after its opening, Trafford Basketball Centre has produced its first National Champions.

The highly successful under 15 boys team went to Islington, London, last weekend to take part in the Final 4, the play-offs for the National League competition.

After a resounding win in the semi-finals over Bristol, 89-31, the Final proved to be a little closer, but Trafford pulled away at the end to win by 58-40.

Tom Parker, Craig Young and Nick Taylor gave outstanding performances.

Further successes were achieved when the clubs under 12 and under 13 boys teams went to the new "Hoops" Basketball centre at Barrow-in-Furness and returned with both trophies.

Excellent contributions from Rohan Morris (Old Trafford), Jordan Lewin (Old Trafford) and Eddie Prophet (Sale) were the highlights of a first-class overall performance by the two teams.

To cap a magnificent weekend, many boys from the centre shone in the North of England trials, selection being earned by Jack Minister (Flixton), Adam Lamb, Addie Prophet, Eddy Kennywell (Sale), Rohan Morris, Wade Lewin (Old Trafford), Adrian Benjamin (Altrincham) and Jordan Grant (Manchester).

These boys go on to the next trial in June, when a team is selected to represent the North of England to go to a Final Trial at Lilleshall in October.

John Amaechi, patron of Trafford Basketball Centre, who played for the Orlando Magic in the NBA season just ended, is currently visiting and spending time at the centre in preparation for his Summer Camps.
