Queen of the Hurdles

KERI Maddox, Britain's own 'Queen of the Hurdles', got her 200 track and field season off to a great start by clocking the year's fastest 100m hurdles in a scintillating 13.13 secs at the Loughborough International on Sunday.

One hour earlier Keri posted a very respectable 57.62 secs in the 400m hurdles, followed by her team-mate Mari BJone who returned 59.92 secs in blustery conditions.

Ann Danson cleared 6.03 metres in the long jump and Lorraine Shaw hurled the hammer 64.70 metres with her protege Rachael Beverley achieving 56.99 metres; Philippa Roles continuing her good form throwing 53.41 metres in the discus.

It was great to see Sonya Bowyer back in action after two years in the wilderness competing in the 800 metres with a time of 2 mins 07.54 secs.

Amy Waterlow covered the much longer distance of 3000 metres in 9mins 25.01 secs, once again proving herself as one of the UK's top young athletes.

At the other end of the scale, team manager Jean Kehoe accomplished her goal by finishing second in the under 17s premier McDonald's league at Blackpool.

After a nightmare week of problems, a much depleted squad once more displayed the famous Harriers team spirit to come second behind the favourities Liverpool.

Both clubs should be on their way to the National Cup final later in the year.
