Ashley CC

ASHLEY made a great start in their local derby against Bowdon Vale, with the prize wicket of Ian Platt in the 2nd over.

The 2nd wicket pair made a good recovery to take the score to 70, but the introduction of Gary Tyms (6-19) pegged The Vale back for 124.

Ashley were soon 10-4 and a losing draw was always on the card.

Jon Griffiths found an able partner in Darren Hatchell taking the score to 30 off 20 overs.

Another flurry of poor shots had Ashley at 67-7 off 47 overs and with only 5 points to show for their efforts.

On Sunday the thirds batted first against Didsbury and in their 50 overs rattled up 195.

The main scorers were Adie Mason with his first 50, and Kal Patel with 64.

Ian Horn dismissed three of the first five batsmen and quick win for Ashley looked on until the middle order got stuck in, and it was Kevin Tierney and Chris Daw who bowled well at the death to give Ashley a win.

Tierney took two wickets for no runs and Daw dismissed the last batsman in the last over to give Ashley 25 points.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Alsager were the visitors to Ashley Road, and they were reduced to six for three thanks to good bowling by captain Simon Ferrie.

Devine and Pearson added 100 runs for the 4th wicket, before the Horns, Alistair and Ian, removed the middle order.

Alsager closed on 202 leaving an Ashley side, with little batting, a tough job.

Only Ferris (25) and Henderson (17) produced a lengthy innings as Ashley slumped to 75 for 5 off 30 overs.

Horn and Birtles added 25 in a few overs, before the two old pros, Preston (17 n.o.) and Harvery along with young Alistair Horn guided the team home to a draw.
