In order to satisfy the strict rules of entry for the league, the team have to be based at the Velodrome in Manchester with its capacity of 3500 seats and will therefore be called the City of Manchester.

z However its close connection with Trafford Basketball Centre will ensure that many club members will travel to the Velodrome to cheer on their team.

John Amaechi, patron of Trafford Basketball Centre, who astonished basketball fans everywhere with his performances for the Orlando Magic last season, was overjoyed to hear the news.

He said, "This is a great boost for Basketball in Trafford and Manchester.

"The team is now one step away from the Premier Division and regular derby games against the famous Manchester Giants.

"It will be great for Basketball fans to be able to watch two top-quality local teams next season.

"We have a superbly run club and stand for all that is good in the game.

"I wish them every success for the future."

Trafford Basketball centre has a tremendous youth policy and produces its own Senior players from its development programme.

With this in mind a series of trials has been organised for any boy who wishes to join one of its National league teams.

The trials are to be held on Sunday 11th June at Trafford Basketball Centre in Sale, with the Under 13 at 1.30pm and the Under 16 at 3.30pm.
