A WOMAN from Stretford has been voted the north west's best neighbour.

Jean Quinn scooped the honour after locals in Moss Park Road nominated her for the Kleeneze organised prize.

But she says that she does nothing anything out of the ordinary, just looks out for others.

The search for the country's top neighbour began in February and has now been whittled down to regional finalists with the overall winner announced later this month.

But Jean says that she is embarrassed to be a regional winner and doesn't want to win the national title - although the £100 worth of Kleeneze vouchers for being a regional winner comes in handy.

She told SUM: "I just do my bit as any good neighbour would. It is hard to believe that there isn't a more deserving winner in the whole of the North West.

"I help out where I can and one thing I do try and do, is to make sure that any new neighbours are made to feel welcome because I know how hard it was when I first moved into the area."

Jean was nominated by neighbour Hilary Hoodless who says that she lets children play on her property rather than in the street and also looks after elderly neighbours - as well as working three days a week and being involved with Save The Children.

The National Neighbourhood Watch Association say Jean is a good example of the 'strong sense of neighbourliness in the north west'.
