CHARLESTOWN began the new Trafford summer netball league held at Lostock High School, where they finished last season, by winning their first game in Division A in style against a depleted Partington squad, with Debbie Johnson in noteable form.

Paddy Anderson gave an outstanding display of enthusiasm and fitness at centre for Bramhall but Andillon held out for a 26 to 20 win with their new goal attack Nicola.

Meanwhile Elite welcomed back former England netballer Natasha Nelson for the summer, but her impressive second half wasn't enough to stop Moss Side winning a close contest by 18 goals to 16.

Also in Division A Trafford 1sts started slowly against Chadwick Textiles, but with some accurate shooting from Jennifer Ryder in the second half, they took control of the game and won taking 3 points.

In Division B, Olympia had the largest win over Reddish while the other division games were all closely fought.

Trafford 2nd were beaten by the whistle, when their final shot taken by Michelle Connolly went in but was disallowed by the umpire for not being completely through the goal ring until after her final whistle had blown leaving them trailing 23 goals to Brookside 1st 24.

Kellogs saw an inspirational return from long term injury, by Rachel Campbell leading them to a 29 to 24 goals win over newly promoted Sale.

With Sophie Castell their best player of the night.

Altrincham and Wakefield both had good defences in top form, Karen Wellford from Altrincham was unfortunate not to be on the winning side, but Wakefields Andrea Cabanner lead her side to an 18-11 goal win.

Newcomers to the Trafford Summer League, City Leisure began with a win over Trafford 3rds but Laura Tyson in goal defence, impressed in her first competitive game for Trafford.

Also with new players, Mendleson Solicitors were effective and too strong for Eccles.

The games between Cresta and Stanley Racing, and Brookside 2nd and UK7 were both evenly matched, but centre Caroline Daniels of Stanley Racing linked well between her attack and defence to finish winners 23 to 22.

Brookside had just the better finish over UK7 with a 15 to 13 goal win.
