THE men's team from Sale Harriers Manchester won the inaugural National Club 4x100m Relay Championships at Bedford on Sunday convincingly defeating all their top premier rivals.

Liam Collins, Daniel Money, John Stewart passed the baton superbly, handing over to Allyn Condon who ran a scorching final leg to clock 40.58 secs.

Sale women were also in action, but with a depleted squad, Stephanie Douglas being injured and Keri Maddox and Ann Danson on international duty.

Three teenagers filled the breach, Lucy Evans (16 years), Heather Brookes (18 years) and Rebecca White (19 years) joined Margaret Veldman to record a very respectable time and finish amongst the prize winners.

Facing the TV cameras, mixing with household names in athletics and competing before such a large crowd gave the youngsters invaluable experience.

Keri Maddox, representing England, posted the fastest time in the UK for the 400m hurdles, clocking 56.20 secs and Julie Crane cleared 1.75 metres in the high jump wearing the Welsh-Scottish colours.

The womens B team continued their unbeaten run in the North of England League - First Division match at Rotherham and look set for a seventh successive title.
