TWO young DJs are hoping for their big break after getting their own show on a radio station.

Chris Ashton, 13 and Lee Battle, 12, who are both pupils at Green Lane High School in Timperley, are presenting "The Kids' Show" on the newly formed Wythenshawe Community Radio.

The two hour live show is broadcast between 10am and 12 noon on Saturdays, on 106.2FM.

Chris and Lee will be playing kid-friendly music and discussing the big issues of the day, such as the Pokemon craze.

They reckon they will combine well on the show - motormouth Lee will be doing the talking, while Chris keeps quiet and spins the records.

Lee said: "I just say the first thing that comes into my head, and Chris mixes the records. We've been planning the show for about three weeks."

Chris added: "It's a lot of hard work. At first, our minds were blank and we didn't know what to do. Most of the show is music, but we have to talk for about 20 minutes."

They caught the radio bug after getting the chance to appear on the Radio One Breakfast Show with Zoe Ball last year.

Lee said: "It was really good. We got to read the news and the traffic report, and we also interviewed Zoe.

"She was very helpful - she showed us how to mix and link songs, and taught us how to write jingles."

The pair are now armed with that experience and are trying to make the new radio station successful. At the moment, it only has a temporary licence, but it could be made permanent.

Chris said: "It's based in Wythenshawe, but it covers all of the North West. It's about bringing the community together."

They landed the job after months of writing to radio stations, asking for a chance to show off their skills. Lee said: "Most places told us we were too young, but now we've got a chance."

Chris said: "Most children's shows are presented by adults. We want to do something for kids, by kids."by
