STUDENTS from South Trafford College gave visitors to a top show a treat as they demonstrated their culinary skills.

The youngsters opened their award winning restaurant/bar Aspire at the Restaurant and Bar Show at the GMEX for the third year running.

They were a focal point of the show, which attracted more than 5,000 visitors including top chefs.

And having won the coveted title of 'Northern College Restaurant of the Year', the pressure was on the South Trafford students to make their mark by showcasing their expertise in an open kitchen. They were also filmed in action before and during the show for an ITV programme called 'Grubs Up!' shown last week.

The students delivered the goods with 300 diners who tucked into a four-course meal enjoying a gourmet experience.

Kay Johnson, head of hospitality at South Trafford College, said: "As a centre of vocational excellence, continual appraisal is necessary to ensure students are equipped with the numerous practical skills that success in the catering industry demands. A live dining environment is the only way to do this. Students already have the opportunity to experience this with our on-site teaching facility, Aspire Restaurant Bar in Altrincham. The difference with the Restaurant and Bar Show is that students can demonstrate their flair for food preparation among future employers at the only event celebrating the northern hospitality industry. This makes it the ultimate test and I'm proud to say they once again passed with flying colours!"

Aspire Restaurant Bar is based at South Trafford College, Manchester Road, West Timperley, Altrincham. Reservations can be made on 0161 952 4678.
