SINCE the announcement of the £150m package for road improvements in Trafford last week, Messenger readers have been coming forward with their views on the state of the roads in the area.

One resident sent in a picture of a pot hole on Walton Road in Sale Derek Marples said Walton Road already has pot holes, despite being skimmed down and then resurfaced just over a year ago.

“The first attempt was so poor they had to restart the process in certain places and now after such a short time there are large holes appearing, not through frost but because of poor workmanship,” he said.

But Alison Klabacher, communications officer at Trafford Council, said council teams were working hard to tackle pot holes in the area.

She said the council had asked residents what they thought of major resurfacing work in their area.

“Over ninety per cent of those who fed back about the major schemes have said they are happy with the work that has taken place,” she said.

On Tuesday March 9, Stockport and Trafford’s Streetscene Alliance, a five-year project to streamline road improvements, was officially launched.

Councillor Matt Colledge, leader of Trafford Council, said at the launch that the money would be used to improve the state of the borough’s roads.

Ms Klabacher said a quarter of the borough’s roads had been resurfaced in the last three years as part of a £24m investment programme.

“No one could have foreseen the worst winter in 30 years, but this major investment couldn’t have been better timed in weather proofing so much of our road network, which has protected us from the severe snow and frost.”

People can report any highway defects at www.trafford.gov.uk or by calling the council on 01619122000.
