MORE than 60 people, including three from Trafford, attended a glitzy event held to thank runners who have raised thousands of pounds for the Christie Hospital.

Over the past year around 1,300 people have taken part in a running event for the leading cancer centre, collectively raising more than £500,000.

The runs included the Great Manchester Run in May, the Great North Run, the London Marathon and other events overseas.

Phil and Julie Adams, from Altrincham, - who are both aged 42 - were two of the guests at the event. They were motivated to take part in this year’s Great Manchester Run and raise money for the Christie after Julie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January and received treatment there.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy she carried on running and finished 270th out of all women taking part in the race.

Adam Jones, 25, from Sale, also received a medal at the event after taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon in May.
