COLWYN BAY 1 ALTRINCHAM 5

Only five regulars from last season were in Altrincham's starting eleven for this friendly at Colwyn Bay.

And three more trialists were employed in the second half against a side three rungs lower than the Robins in the non-League pyramid.

The Welshmen held their own in the first half and, but for some fine saves from Alty's trialist keeper Russell Saunders, theSeagulls could have gone ahead.

But, on the stroke of half time, Colin Little conjured a goal out of nothing for the visitors, expertly looping an instinctive header into the net from new signing Matty Crowell's precision cross.

Altrincham went on to dominate the second half with a second goal from Little, two strikes from former Chester City and Bangor City forward, Paul McManus, and a goal from former Manchester United starlet Ben Muirhead who, like McManus, played this game as a trialist.

Bay did get a goal back when they were 4-0 down, through McGill, but Altrincham went on to complete their second successful pre-season game, following their 6-2 win last week at Abbey Hey.

The Robins are away at Northwich on Tuesday, Trafford om Thursday (7.45pm), before entertaining a Bolton Wanderers XI at Moss Lane on Saturday (3pm).

Home friendlies against League Two newcomers Burton Albion on Saturday, August 1 and a Manchester United XI on Tuesday, August 4th (7.45pm) complete Altrincham's pre-season schedule.
