Two men have been arrested in Salford as part of an ongoing investigation into a series of criminal damage offences across Greater Manchester.

The men, aged 46 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage and remain in police custody for questioning.

Greater Manchester Police said the arrests follow reports of criminal damage to properties across Greater Manchester since October 5.

Most of the incidents have taken place in Salford and are believed to involve houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) or properties mistaken for HMOs.

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Bagnall, senior investigating officer, said:

"These arrests are a significant development in our investigation.

"We believe this offending is linked to the criminal exploitation of children, with vulnerable young people being encouraged by others to commit acts of criminal damage on their behalf.

"Our focus is on identifying those carrying out the offences, as well as those directing and organising them.

"Let these arrests serve as a warning to anyone involved.

"We will continue to pursue all lines of enquiry and take robust action against those responsible.

"Anyone with information that could assist our investigation should contact us."

Police said the investigation is ongoing and includes CCTV reviews, intelligence gathering, and partnership work to identify those involved and prevent further offences.

High-visibility patrols remain in place in affected areas.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police online at gmp.police.uk or by calling 101.

Information can also be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or through their website.

Enquiries remain ongoing.
