The MP for Altrincham and Sale West has spoken of his "deep distress" following what he has called a stabbing in Altrincham town centre.
Emergency services were called to Railway Street at around 3.20am on Sunday (November 30) to a serious incident.
Two men have been seriously injured while one man has been arrested and remains in custody for questioning.
Now, Connor Rand has issued a statement describing his concern following what he has called a stabbing.
Mr Rand said: "I know residents will share my deep distress and concern about the stabbing in Altrincham town centre, on Railway Street close to the hospital, in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, November 30).
"I have been in contact with Greater Manchester Police and they have assured me that they are treating this as an isolated incident. A suspect has been arrested, whilst two victims remain in serious condition in hospital. My thoughts are with the victims and their families."
Greater Manchester Police said on Sunday evening that a 21-year-old male suffered a wound to the chest and remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital, while another man in his 20s suffered facial injuries which are thought to be life-changing and was also taken to hospital.
A 24-year-old man from the Partington area has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and section 18 assault.
A 51-year old male and 52-year old female also received minor injuries as a result of being assaulted during the incident.
Mr Rand added: "I am grateful to all the emergency service workers involved in responding to this incident and to the police for their swift action.
"I would urge all residents to give the police the space and support they need to bring the perpetrator to justice."
