A Chinese restaurant is to open at Altrincham's Foundation after a deal for the last location at the development.

Yum Cha is to open as one of a number of occupants of the former House of Fraser some time over the summer.

The Chinese restaurant started by brothers Adam Wan and Neil Wan will be the second site in Greater Manchester, after its restaurant at Kampus in the city centre, and the fourth site in the North West, after its sites in Sefton Park, Liverpool, and Time Square, Warrington.

It specialises in dim sum, a term for small dishes such as bao buns and dumplings, as well as noodle dishes, rice dishes and roasted meats.

Adam Wan said: "We cannot wait to open in the Stamford Quarter and the Foundation building is the perfect location for us. We opened in the city centre in 2022 and, after the phenomenal response from our customers, Altrincham seemed like the perfect place to expand.

"The Foundation building is a brand new destination for drinking and eating within the town centre and we are delighted Yum Cha is now a part of the already burgeoning Foundation community."

The development in the town centre is the result of the partnership between Bruntwood and Trafford Council.

This its last location after Starbucks, which is open, as well as Lane7 and Nell's Pizza, which are still to open.

Bruntwood's Head of Retail and Leisure, James Tootle, said: "Yum Cha's decision to open in Foundation is a testament to the quality of the Stamford Quarter. It is the perfect location for attracting visitors to the town from both the local community and beyond.

"With an already exciting and eclectic mix of brands, we are thrilled to welcome this fantastic, independent restaurant to the heart of Altrincham. We are confident guests will love Yum Cha's dim sum."
