A fourth-generation family Trafford furniture business is celebrating more than a century of trading in the borough.
Ashbrooks, in Sale, is a family-run furniture business that has been operating for 135 years.
The company held a celebration event earlier this month (June 15), which the Trafford mayor Cllr Amy Whyte attended, as well as a host of loyal customers.
One of the directors of the company, Chris O'brien said: "Firstly, we would like to dearly thank all our customers past and present for attending our special celebration day and all those customers who have supported us over the years, returning time and time again.
"It is a great privilege to be help steer the business through its 135th year of successful, continuous trading being family run since being established in 1889- a rare thing in today’s business climate.
"It was a day enjoyed by all who attended and the mayor's visit to come and congratulate us was a lovely gesture."
He added: "Although the business has endured many challenges over the years, most recently navigating through the Covid pandemic, our customer-focused approach alongside offering a quality product whether it be a new suite, bed, furniture or carpet has built a strong foundation for the business over the years.”
The company was founded in 1889 by Peter Ashbrook, a cabinet maker who had just completed his apprenticeship.
The business bloomed and he soon acquired the first Ashbrooks workshop.
Over the 135 years, the company has been passed down through four generations of the Ashbrook family including to Peter's grandson, Derek Ashbrook, who is still a director.
Mr Ashbrook said: "I am proud to say we are now in the fourth generation of the Ashbrook family.
"My grandfather was a cabinet maker and started the business in 1889.
"We have always given a personal service that we hope will continue in the many years to come."
Ashbrooks now sells a wide range of furniture from their store on Washway Road, Sale.
In honour of their anniversary, Ashbrooks have enlisted a local historian to help them look into the history of the local area they are based in.
Their website features a detailed history of the company that walks visitors through how the company has evolved in both its trading and values.
The furniture company carries stock from well-known brands such as Parker Knoll and Burgess Bedding.
They also opened a dedicated carpet showroom in 2008 after the unit neighbouring them became available.
Highly rated on Google, reviews of the business accredit them as 'highly professional' and one review saying: "You would be hard pressed to find somewhere as good as Ashbrooks."
